Agriculture & Natural Resources : Meet the Agents

Doug Shepherd

Doug has been the County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources with Livestock emphasis since 1990. He was an Extension Intern in Hardin County in 1970.


Originally from Ohio, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Kentucky in 1972. Upon graduation he was appointed Extension Agent for Agriculture in Crittenden County, KY where he served nearly seven years. While in Western Kentucky, he has worked as an Assistant Manager for a private agency Southern States Coop store, and operated a 1,000 acre row-crop/confinement hog farrow-to-feeder pig operation/commercial beef herd. Later he managed two retail fertilizer plants for Cargill in Breckinridge County, KY.


Along with his Extension career, Doug also serves as Beef Superintendent of the North American International Livestock Exposition held in Louisville, UK Beef Integrated Resource Management (IRM) Committee, Elizabethtown-Hardin County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and Elizabethtown Emmaus Board.


He and his wife Allison moved to Hardin County in August 1990. He has four children and four grandchildren.

 

Matt Adams

Matt was selected to serve as the County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources with Agronomic and Business Management emphasis the beginning September 2010.  He had previously served as Hardin County Extension Agricultural Program Assistant.  He’s a spring 2010 graduate from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Production, with a minor in Business Management.
        
Along with his Extension position, Matt operates a cattle and commercial hay production operation in the southern part of Hardin County near Upton, KY.
